Who were the Nazis?

Nazi is a short term for the National Socialist German Workers Party, a right-wing political organization formed in 1919 by German veterans of World War I who were unemployed and disillusioned. Adolf Hitler became the head of the party in 1921. It was under his leadership that the party became a powerful force in German politics. By the 1930s the Nazi party ideology was based on nationalism and racism. The Nazi party promoted the idea of scientific racism, in which the Aryan (German) people were racially superior to all others.
